Lynne Moidel

Office: Wheatley 2nd
floor reception area

Lynne Moidel has been the secretary with the Media Arts Department since 2004, and has had the unique opportunity to be part of this ever-evolving department, watching it almost triple in its enrollment over the past ten years. She has contributed plenty of life experience, wisdom, and a helpful dose of people skills!

Hailing from Long Island, New York, Lynne earned her Bachelor of Art Degree from Adelphi University and was a Girl Scout Cadette leader, volunteer at the Industrial Home for the Blind, and worked in retail in a movie theater and a shoe store!

She moved to Pittsburgh in 1978 and worked at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation with Carnegie Mellon University as a curatorial assistant. There, she learned to frame valuable antique botanical watercolors, set up art exhibitions, categorize and document new incoming work.

When Lynne moved back to Long Island due to her husband’s career, she became a Teacher’s Aide with special needs students. This is where she became interested in working with children with autism. Lynne continued developing her skills in the area of special needs education. After relocating to Connecticut, she worked in a middle school as a Paraprofessional for five years and a Special Ed Liaison for two more, before the opportunity presented itself to return to Pittsburgh.

Upon her return to Pittsburgh, Lynne became a Therapeutic Support Staff (T.S.S.) doing Wrap-around with children with Autism. After Lynne’s appointment as secretary to the Media Arts Department, she was able to return to university and earn her Master of Science degree in Instructional Leadership in Education. Lynne is continuing her education by pursuing a graduate program in Advanced Studies of Autism Spectrum Disorders at RMU.

Lynne now lives in Carnegie and spends time, whenever possible, with her grown son who lives nearby. Whenever she does have a few minutes of spare time, she enjoys making jewelry and reading!
